Etymology[edit]

Introduced in the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game in the 1970s. Possibly related to Swedish vråk (buzzard).

  1. (fantasy) A humanoid demon with the head, claws, and wings of a giant vulture.
    • 2001, Kate Nepveu, “some tough questions?”, in rec.games.roguelike.nethack (Usenet):
If you play with certain demons (mariliths, vrocks, hezrous, bone devils, nalfeshnees, pit fiends, or water demons), you could eventually get Yeenoghu anywhere, and then he could get you Demo.
    • 2005, Trina L. Talma, River's End, page 28:
The hag, after seeing her threats had no effect on Liann, left her alone, though usually watched over by the vrock.
