English[edit]

Noun[edit]

whitebaiter (plural whitebaiters)

  1. (New Zealand) One who fishes for whitebait.
    • 1984, R. M. McDowall, The New Zealand Whitebait Book, page 138:
On the Waiatoto River, it was common for the first whitebaiter to sight the fisheries officer to shout "Cup 'a tea", and this would pass on down the river from whitebaiter to whitebaiter until it reached the river mouth.
