Galician[edit]

Xílgaro

Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Obscure. Related to Spanish jilguero, which derives from an older silguero; perhaps from sirgo (silk),[1] but the suffix -aro is usually found in pre-Latin words. Compare also Portuguese pintassilgo.
