From Old Irish in·saigim, from in- + saigid (go towards, seek, attain), from Proto-Indo-European *séh₂gyeti (to seek out, to track). Cognate with Irish ionsaigh (advance upon, attack, reach, attain) and Scottish Gaelic ionnsaich (learn, instruct, educate).
