Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish زرلدی (zırıldı, zırıltı, “a continuous sharp noise, a clatter, chatter, tinkling, noise of vain words”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish زرل (zırıl, “a tinkle”), from Ottoman Turkish زر (zır, “onomatopoeic for; a buzzing or whizzing sound”),[2][3] morphologically zır + -l + -tı.

- The sound of buzzing or whirring.
- A small and insignificant thing whose name one cannot immediately recall or purposely avoids using; thingamajig, thingamabob, whatsitsname.
- (figuratively) An object that makes an annoying noise.
- (figuratively) A conflict that occurs due to a small disagreement; squabble.
