Romanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Unknown. Several theories have been proposed. One was a derivation from a Vulgar Latin root *imbubiāre, from bubia, but this was later abandoned. Another possibility is Latin imbuere, through a root *imbuviāre, or Latin bubīre (swell, inflate). [1]
