Pela[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan [Term?]. Likely correspondent with Burmese ဟုတ် (hut, be so), Nuosu (nge, be) and Tangut 𘟂 (*ŋwu², be). Compare with Lhao Vo ngad and Zaiwa ngvut. According to Guillaume Jacques, this Lolo-Burmese root may be cognate with Tibetan ངོ་མ (ngo ma, real, authentic).

Pronunciation[edit]

Verb[edit]

ŋɔ̠t⁵⁵

  1. be (copula)

Usage notes[edit]

  • This word ends with a coda -t. The particle a⁵⁵ changes to na³¹ when attached to the verb.
  • The copula is usually omitted in affirmative sentences. When the sentence is nagative(obligatory) or interrogative(optional), the verb appears.
