   • 1848, Janez Bleiweis, editor, Kmetijske in rokodelske novice‎^[1], volume 6, Ljubljana, page 129:

     Kjučica ^ nad e zaznamuje pràv za pràv le dolgo odperto ali široko e postavim: têle, žêne, ne pa kratkiga, ki ima samo na sebi ta glas.

     The hook ^ above e actually marks only long [ɛ], for example: têle (calf), žêne (wives), but not the short one, which has this sound by default.
