From Proto-Bahnaric *ʔuɲ (fire), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *[ ]ʔus ~ *[ ]ʔuus ~ *[ ]ʔuəs (fire, firewood), through some phonological progress. Cognate with Halang 'ŭn, Sedang on.
