From Proto-Turkic *ādïg (awake; conscious; sober; clear (of weather)), a participal name of condition derived from Proto-Turkic *ād- (to get conscious, to get sober; to clear (of weather)).

Compare to Karakhanid اَذِغْ (aδïɣ, sober, conscious); Kazakh айық (aiyq, clear (of weather)), Kumyk айыкъ (ayıq, sober), Southern Altai айык (ayïk, careful), Turkish ayık (sober), Khakas айығ (ayığ, bringing someone into consciousness), Chuvash урă (ură, sober).
