Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Slavic *vědьma, from *vě̀děti (to know, foresee) +‎ *-ьma. Cognate with Russian ведьма (vedʹma), Belarusian ведзьма (vjedzʹma), Polish wiedźma, Czech vědma.[1]
