Cognate with Tatar җилкә (cilkä), Kazakh желке (jelke), Kyrgyz желке (jelke), Karachay-Balkar джелке (celke, nape, back of the neck), Uyghur يەلكە (yelke, shoulder; scruff).

Unknown relationship with Southern Altai јитке (ǰitke, nape), Khakas нітке (nìtke, nape), Chulym читкӓ (čitkä, scruff), Tuvan читке (çitke, scruff).
