Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic кръмьчии (krŭmĭčii). By surface analysis, корма́ (kormá) +‎ -чий (-čij); the helm or rudder was usually in the stern of the ship. Compare корми́ло (kormílo, helm, rudder).
