Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Classical Persian محرم sg (muḥarram /⁠muharram⁠/, Muharram), from Arabic مُحَرَّمٌ m sg (muḥarramun, forbidden; Muharram).

Vowels of all syllables had become back due to intervocalic Arabic pharyngeal consonant ـحـ (-ḥ-).
