Etymology[edit]

From Classical Mongolian ᠮᠥᠷᠡᠨ (mören, big river), from Middle Mongol ᠮᠥᠷᠡᠨ (mören, river), Proto-Mongolic *mören (river, sea). Cognate with Dongxiang moron, etc. Semantically compare to Chinese (jiāng) and Manchu ᡠᠯᠠ (ula).
