Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old East Slavic оловѧнꙑи (olovęnyi), оловѣнꙑи (olověnyi), from Proto-Slavic *olověnъ, *olověnьnъ, from *olovo (lead) + *-ěnъ. Equivalent to о́лово (ólovo) +‎ -я́ний (-jányj). Compare Russian оловя́нный (olovjánnyj), Belarusian алавя́ны (alavjány), Polish ołowiany (lead, leaden).
