Borrowed from Classical Persian وَطَن (vatan), from Arabic وَطَن (waṭan). Compare also Kyrgyz ватан (vatan, dialectal), Bashkir ватан (vatan), Tatar ватан (watan), Uyghur ۋەتەن (weten), Uzbek vatan, Azerbaijani vətən, Turkish vatan, etc.
