Etymology[edit]

Attested as [script needed] (tabunaγud) in Classical Mongolian manuscripts. By surface analysis, табанан (tabanan, khan’s son-in-law) +‎ -гууд (-guud, plural and associative suffix), referring to chieftain Turukhai Tabunan with his subjects.
