Etymology[edit]

From *törä (aristocrat; bureaucrat; state official), perhaps related to Old Uyghur [script needed] (törä, law; custom), and/or to Proto-Turkic *tȫr (seat of honor).

Cognate with Tatar түрә (türä, state official), Kazakh төре (töre, a descendant of Genghis Khan; aristocrat; high-ranking state official), Kyrgyz төрө (törö, lord, mister; bureaucrat), Uzbek toʻra (state official; aristocrat), Shor төре (city mayor, head of district), etc.
