Mongolian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Classical Mongolian ᠤᠭᠰᠠᠭ᠎ᠠ (uɣsag-a, royal family), similar but hard to connect with Manchu ᡠᡴᠰᡠᠨ (uksun) with the same meaning.

Separable into уг (ug, origin) +‎ *-саа (*-saa), but the latter part is not found as a suffix elsewhere.

It could be speculated that it represents an older ablative form, compare Buryat угһаа (ughaa, previously, in the past).

Noun[edit]

угсаа (ugsaa)

  1. ancestry, origin, descent
  2. (historical) dynasty
  3. breed, strain
