ханжанав (xanzhanav) ᡍᠠᠨᠠᠴᡅ
ᡋᠠᡕᡅᠨᠠᡅ
ᡋᡅ
(xanaji bayinai bi)

Etymology[edit]

first-person singular present progressive of ханх (xanx).

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /χanʲ.d͡ʑaˈnaw/

Interjection[edit]

ханҗанав (xanjanav)

  1. thank you
    Synonym: байрлҗанав (bayrljanav)

Usage notes[edit]

  • According to some speakers, it is not customary for Kalmyks to express gratitude in everyday life; instead, a well-wish called йөрәл (yöräl) is used to express profound appreciation.
  • Sometimes, байрлҗанав (bayrljanav) is used instead by some speakers, on the basis that the verb ханх (xanx) can also mean "to express gratitude after sexual intercourse".
