From Persian رحمت (rahmat, mercy), from Arabic رَحْمَة (raḥma, compassion, mercy). Cognate with Tatar рәхмәт (räxmät), Bashkir рәхмәт (rəxmət), Kazakh рахмет (raxmet), Uzbek rahmat, Uyghur رەھمەت (rehmet, thank you), etc.
