From Proto-Turkic *yalaŋač (bare, naked), from Proto-Turkic *yalïŋ (bare, naked).

Cognate with Kyrgyz жылаңач (jılaŋac), Tatar ялангач (yalangaç, naked, bare), Crimean Tatar calanğaş (naked, barefoot).
