Bashkir[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Unclear. Possibly reinterpreted as having the abessive ending from a Mongolic archetype (compare Mongolian хомс (xoms, insufficient, scanty)).

See also ҡомағай (qomağay), which is clearly of Mongolic origin and appears to have the same primary root syllable (qom-).

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): [qʊ̞mˈhʊ̞ð]
  • Hyphenation: ҡом‧һоҙ

Adjective[edit]

ҡомһоҙ (qomhoź)

  1. greedy for money or property, avaricious, covetous
  2. insatiable for food
