Apparently a Chatagai innovation, from earlier *qarïn-daš (sibling), from Proto-Turkic *karïn (abdomen; uterus) + mutuality affix -daš.

Cognate with Tatar кардәш (qardäş), Kumyk къардаш (qardaş, brother, relative), Uzbek qardosh (brother, friend; relative), Turkish kardeş (sibling).
