Etymology[edit]

Ačaṙean, Pokorny and J̌ahukyan derive from Proto-Indo-European *h₃er- (to move, to stir).[1][2][3][4] [5] J̌ahukyan reconstructs the proto-form for արմ (arm) as *or-mo- and for արմն (armn) as *ormen-, equivalent to being suffixed with (-m) and -մն (-mn) respectively.[4]

Among the cognates Ancient Greek ὄρμενος (órmenos, shoot, sprout, stem, stalk) and ὄραμνος (óramnos, branch, twig) are especially close.
