Etymology[edit]
A misspelling of *մարգաշիշայ (*margašišay), borrowed from Iranian – compare Persian مرقشیشا (marqašišâ, “marcasite”), itself from Semitic. See Arabic مَرْقَشِيتَا (marqašītā).
