Etymology[edit]

Recorded in Norayr's dictionary as a Middle Armenian word.[1] The place of attestation in the literature is unknown.

Borrowed from Classical Syriac ܫܠܦܐ (šlpˀ /⁠šelpā⁠/, a knife-like iron tool for grasping or pulling out something).[2]
