Etymology[edit]
From the unattested Parthian cognate of Middle Persian [script needed] (pcyn' /pačēn/). The by-form պաճէն (pačēn) is from Middle Persian. The by-forms պատճեան (patčean), պաճեան (pačean) were back-formed from inflections like պատճենի (patčeni). The by-forms պատճիկ (patčik), պաճիկ (pačik) remain unexplained.
