Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from German ultimativ, from Medieval Latin ultimātus (furthest, last), past participle of Latin ultimō, ultimāre (to come to an end), from ultimus (last, final). Compare אוּלְטִימָטוּם (ultimatum).

Further reinforced by English ultimate.
