From Latin tīrō (recruit). Attested in the military sense since Late Antiquity.

Noun[edit]

טִירוֹן (tirónm (plural indefinite טִירוֹנִים, feminine counterpart טִירוֹנִית)

  1. (military) A new (male) recruit: one who has recently joined a military (and is male).
  2. (by extension) A (male) novice, greenhorn, newbie: one who is inexperienced in his field (and is male).
