Inherited from Proto-Turkic *adïg (bear); cognate with Old Turkic 𐰑𐰍 (d¹ǧ /⁠adïɣ⁠/), Azerbaijani ayı, Bashkir айыу (ayıw), Kazakh аю (), Kyrgyz аюу (ayuu), Tatar аю (ayu), Turkmen aýy, Uyghur ئېيىق (ëyiq) and Uzbek ayiq.
