From Middle Persian 𐭠𐭥𐭲𐭧𐭱𐭲𐭥 (Ardaxšīr), from Old Persian 𐎠𐎼𐎫𐎧𐏁𐏂𐎠 (Artaxšaçā), which was borrowed into Greek, Latin, and then English as Artaxerxes.
