Etymology[edit]

From Chagatai تَرْس (ters), ultimate origin is uncertain.[1] Compare Karakhanid تَرْسْ (ters, any difficult thing), Turkish ters (inverse, reverse), terslik (inverseness; adversity), Mongolian тэрс (ters, dissident; contrary), Azerbaijani tərs (contrary, rear, behind, stubborn).
