Inherited from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (druwand /⁠dlwnd⁠/, sinful, unrighteous [one]), borrowed from Avestan 𐬛𐬭𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬧𐬙 (druuaṇt), 𐬛𐬭𐬆𐬔𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬧𐬙 (drəguuaṇt), from Proto-Iranian *dráwgah-wánts (follower of the Lie). Compare Sanskrit द्रुह्वन् (druhvan).
