Etymology[edit]
From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (dʾhlyc /dahlīz/, “portico”), from Old Persian [Term?] (/duvarθi-/, “portico, colonnade”), from 𐎯𐎺𐎼𐎹𐎠 (du-v-r-y-a /duvar-/, “door, gate”). Compare Old Armenian դահլիճ (dahlič), Old Georgian დალიჭი (dalič̣i), Iranian borrowings.
