Etymology[edit]
From the root س ب ح (s-b-ḥ). Cognate with Hebrew שבח (shibéakh, “to praise, to appreciate”) and Classical Syriac ܫܒܚ. Possibly related to Egyptian sbḥ (“to cry out, to scream”).
