Persian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (styck' /stēzag/, strife), derived from [Manichaean needed] (‘styz /stēz-/, to quarrel), from Proto-Iranian *staiǰ-, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(s)teyg-. Doublet of تیز (tiz, sharp, quick). By surface analysis, ستیز (setiz) +‎ ـه (-e).
