Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *sedrek,[1] from *sedre- (“to be rare, to have wide intervals”).[2] Cognates with Turkish seyrek, Kyrgyz сейрек (seyrek), Southern Altai сайак (sayak), Uzbek siyrak.
