Etymology[edit]
From the root ض ي ق (ḍ-y-q), from Proto-Semitic *ṣ́yḳ- (“to be narrow”). Cognate with Biblical Hebrew צוּק (ṣûq, “to constrain, bring into straits, press upon”) and Akkadian 𒊓𒀀𒄣 (sâqu).
