Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kạrïn (“belly, abdomen”); cognate with Old Turkic 𐰴𐰺𐰣 (qr¹n¹ /qarïn/), Azerbaijani qarın, Bashkir ҡарын (qarın), Chuvash хырӑм (hyrăm), Kazakh қарын (qaryn), Kyrgyz карын (karın), Tatar qarın, Turkmen garyn and Uzbek qorin.
