Etymology[edit]

A development of Proto-Turkic *kol (upper arm), whence also Ottoman Turkish قول (qol, arm, sleeve, branch); cognate with Azerbaijani qoltuq, Bashkir ҡултыҡ (qultıq), Kazakh қолтық (qoltyq), Turkmen goltuk and Uzbek qo'ltiq.
