Etymology[edit]

The name of the dance genre, originally called Sheikhani, takes its name from the song Bagiye by Juliana Jendo, which is named after one of her relatives. The song is of the Sheikhani genre and was then applied to that entire genre of dance. (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)
