From Akkadian eṣem ṣēru (bone of the back). Partial doublet of ܥܸܛܡܵܐ (ˁiṭmā, thigh). Doublet of ܣܸܢܣܘܿܪܵܐ (sinsōrā, icicle). Unattested in Classical Syriac.
