Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Classical Persian قلعه (qal'a), from Arabic قَلْعَة (qalʕa). Compare with Bengali কেল্লা (kella), Marathi किल्ला (killā), Punjabi ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ (kilhā).
