Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀓𑁄𑀭 (*kora) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-). Compare Gujarati કોરું (korũ), Hindustani کورا (korā) / कोरा (korā), Sindhi ڪورو / कोरो, Punjabi ਕੋਰਾ (korā) / کورا (korā), Maithili कोरा (kōrā) / 𑒏𑒼𑒩𑒰 (kōrā), Odia କୋରା (kora), Bengali কোরা (kōra).
