Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀙𑁄𑀓𑁆𑀓-𑀭 (*chokka-ra). Related to छोरा (chorā) and dialectal छोहरा (chohrā). Cognate with Bengali ছোকরা (chōkra) and Gujarati છોકરો (chokro).
