Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘟𑘲𑘪𑘰𑘯𑘲 (dīvāḷī), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀤𑀻𑀯𑀸𑀮𑀻 (dīvālī), 𑀤𑀻𑀯𑀸𑀯𑀮𑀻 (dīvāvalī), from Sanskrit दीपावलि (dīpāvali). Compare Gujarati દિવાળી (divāḷī), Hindustani دِوالِی (divālī) / दिवाली (divālī), Sindhi ڏِيَارِي / ॾियारी, Punjabi ਦਿਵਾਲੀ (divālī) / دِوالی (divālī), Maithili दिबाड़ी (dibāṛī) / 𑒠𑒱𑒥𑒰𑒛𑓃𑒲 (dibāṛī, clay lamp), Assamese দেৱালী (dewali).
