Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘢𑘓𑘜𑘹 (pacaṇe), from Sanskrit पच्यते (pacyate). Compare Gujarati પચવું (pacvũ), Hindustani پَچْنَا (pacnā) / पचना (pacnā), Sindhi پَچَڻُ / पचणु, Punjabi ਪਚਣਾ (pacṇā) / پَچݨا (pacṇā), Bengali পচা (poca), Assamese পচা (posa), Sinhalese පැසෙනවා (pæsenawā).
