Etymology[edit]

Related to बकबक (bakbak) with reduplication (compare Maharastri Prakrit 𑀩𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀭 (bakkara)). Cognate with Gujarati બકવું (bakvũ), Hindustani بَکْنَا (baknā) / बकना (baknā), Sindhi بَڪَڻُ / बकणु, Punjabi ਬਕਣਾ (bakṇā) / بَکݨا (bakṇā), Nepali बक्नु (baknu), Maithili बकब (bakab) / 𑒥𑒏𑒥 (bakaba), Odia ବକିବା (bôkiba), Bengali বকা (boka), Assamese বকা (boka).
